Animal attack horror leaves two dead
Hikers warned to be vigilant

By James Rep
A grisly animal attack which left two hikers dead and one in intensive care has been described as a ‘one in a million freak event’ by experts.

The victims have been identified as Louise Ann Bevan, 34, and husband Timothy Bevan, 38, who were attacked in the early hours of Saturday morning by what is currently suspected to be a pack Wolves while camping on the Irmwood trail 20 kilometres West of Farnot.

The condition of the bodies is understood to have made it impossible to conclusively identyf the attacking animal, however Timber Wolves have attacked hikers in the region before, though with only one recorded fatality.

Son; Ryan Bevan, 12, is reported to have survived the attack by hiding in a collapsed tent. However, he did sustain severe injuries and is currently in critical condition at Farnot City Hospital.

Police have confirmed initial reports that the attack was carried out by one or more people were wide of the mark, triggered by information given by the child and subsequently discounted following an examination of the bodies.

Deputy Frank Digby said: ‘Following an analysis of the remains of the victims and the fact that no valuables were taken we are discounting human involvement at this time. We have closed down the Irmwood trail as a precaution while a full investigation takes place.

‘Though this kind of tragedy is an extremely rare occurrence we would advise anybody planning on hiking in the area in the near future to be vigilant and exercise good sense around any wildlife displaying unusual behaviour’ he added.

Anybody who observes animals in the area behaving in an aggressive or disorientated manner is asked to contact Farnot Police on: 0800 41 41 300.

Irmwood trail: popular with hikers.

eww!

Scarey stuff!

Just

trying out the style. I'm looking at how easy it would be to build a story around excerpts from diaries and newspapers, reports etc.

The problem is characterisation. Would be really tough to build a character people can get to grips with using this medium.

Good fun though, and I love the picture.

Excellent Idea

H.P. Lovecraft and other authors have told stories through a series of letters or journal entries. I assume zombies are responsible because of the child's statement, but you have really left the door open for almost anything. Since fortunately for most of us, real horror is mostly observed from afar, conveying the story through newspaper reports actually gives it a feel of authenticity that should more than compensate for lack of individual character identity.

HP - The Master

I love that man's work. Absolute genius. Unashamed over the top melodramatic genius.

I wrote up a piece a couple of months ago in the Lovecraft style that I'll share with everyone a little later on... no zombies though, is that ok for this site?

I'm working on something with newspapers, diaries, letters but it's a long way off. This was just 'to get the ball rolling'. And of course it's zombies :) ... if you think about it there is plenty of scope of expansion.

Those two bodies in the morgue... well we know they aren't gonna go quietly into those freezers. They never do, but first you could have autopsy reports, coroner diary entry.

There's the sick kid in the hospital... just why oh why would they isolate him from the rest of the hospital? The kind (now dead) nurse shouldn't have unstrapped him from the bed so he could drink that water. So easy to forget to redo the harness and just where did he go? How can you lose a kid in a hospital right?

I'll get round to putting it all down on paper eventually.
