Five Things Part 8
Hey guys, quick note, the new character, the woman who arrived on the motorcycle, her name is spelled Dunen pronounced Dune en, so doon en, I'm not sure how to make it any clearer, but enjoy the latest chapter in my series!
We hovered above the station for a good couple minutes before receiving radio contact with the people inside. “Can you make it to the roof?” I radioed inside. “Yes, sir. We can be there in two minutes” who ever the person on the other end was. The carnage around was unbelievable, the fires, the now monstrous looking structures that were once buildings, now evidence of a brutal and bloody battle. “Brace for impact!” the pilot yelled, I grabbed the nearest handhold.
An RPG erupted from a side street. We immediately looked for the police officers so we could escape ‘dodge’ and return to the outpost. I grabbed the radio, “Who fired that RPG?” I radioed on all frequencies. “Are you government?” someone radioed back. “No, we’re a rescue chopper from the outpost west of here.” I replied to the unknown voice. “You mean the city that got destroyed? We heard there was a huge battle over there.” He said. “We’re doing fine, the enemy was suppressed and we now have a safe outpost there.”
The officers burst onto the roof, three of them. We immediately landed to pick them up, they had their rifles and plenty of ammo. “We’re headed back to the outpost, if you or anybody with you can make it out there, we have shelter.” I answered back as I relaxed against the chair. The new chick removed her facemask, immediately I heard one of the three officers, “Dunen! You came back. Just like you promised.” The two women hugged and relaxed. I began to feel low again, I couldn’t believe Jackie was dead. I was starting to think maybe I should follow suit. But I couldn’t abandon my duties at the outpost, if that’s the only thing to keep me going so be it. I’ll save anyone and everyone I can.
We arrived back at the outpost minutes later, the other man with his motorcycle had already left. I moved quickly to my tent I needed some sleep. I quickly dozed off and dreamt a nightmare. What else did I expect in a world where humanity’s worst nightmare had become reality, the actual possibility of extinction. I slowly awoke. I wasn’t sure how long I had been asleep. I heard someone just outside the tent. I grabbed my pistol and pulled the slide back making that unmistakable click that comes from the pistol loading a round into the chamber. Who is at the door?
