Zombies

What do you think about when you hear the word zombie? You would think they are like in the movies, fast moving, and able to use tools to get to the overly guarded humans who would cut them down and get to the safe zone, but that is a lie. Zombies, truly are simply the dead, who can no longer think on the rational human method, only to feast upon the flesh of the human beings around them. They live with that one purpose and are motivated by that. They do degrade, as do most dead organisms, but it varies upon the climate and the circumstances there. In a warm, humid environment, they would decompose faster till they are no longer able to survive and finally the brain would decompose. But if you are in a colder environment, this would slow the decomposition. People do not think about this when they say things like “We need to head north, so that the zombies would freeze.” is complete crap, they need to take into account that the heat will all out cause them to get weaker, and nerves and tendons to decompose, making them nothing more that moaning heaps of decomposing flesh no more able to kill someone then they are to get up and walk around again.

But this is the strange part, no one truly knows how the dead will truly act. But one thing is truly known, they can not run. At death the body has rigamortis, where the muscles tighten up, not allowing there to by fast movements. They, when they walk, would be so slow moving that they would be able to be out walked. But the thing that makes up for this is the sheer numbers of them. They do not attack in ones or twos, they would come in vast numbers to swarm and over run the people trying to defend himself.

The other thing that makes the undead or zombies so terrifying to the normal person is how it spreads. It is a virus, a contagion that would spread through fluid contact from oral to would contact or to through fluid contact through blackened blood to has ceased to flow through the veins of the undead. This gruesome, clotted fluid does not fuel the body, nothing is know as to how the undead survive, as they do not digest the flesh and organs they devour, it simply sits in their stomach, till eventually it bursts, and from there they continue to eat and eat, with the torn and bloody flesh pouring through the hole now in the stomach.

How can such a simple, basic creature as a zombie, even in large numbers be terrifying? How can they, when easily dispatched from a simple shot or bludgeon to the head? With their main system that seems to keep them going being in their skull, why not simply cut this off, and leave them for the truly dead? The thing that keeps it from happening is fear. Fear is the thing that keeps most of us from doing most of the things that will propel all of us forward. Fear keeps us from being all we can be. If we can shed this, maybe this plague that has enveloped the world would not be the way it is now. We were cowards, and now we are paying for this. If we had actually thought and not panicked, the world would be the same, with only a few thousand being dead. But no, we panicked, the rich hiding in the north and the poor being left to fend for ourselves. We are the damned ones, we are the ones that are doomed to die in this new wasteland. I just pray that one day, god would forgive us.
