- About Me
I love to read. I love writing. I love anything morbid or strange. I became a fan of horror films after watching 'poltergeist' at the age of six. My nine year old daughter has insisted on watching at least one of the seven original 'Nightmare on Elm Street' films almost every night for the past seven years, literally. My hope is that I have passed my love of horror on to her. I am a firm believer that Rod Serling was one of the most brilliant and influential people of the twentieth century, his portrait hangs on my wall, we refer to him as "Uncle Rod". I feel that Poppy Z. Brite deserves more credit than Anne Rice, she took it further. Nick Cave has made his mark in music, published a novel as well as books of poetry and lyrics, composed scores, written screenplays, lectured at universities, appeared in films, sang a duet with Johnny Cash, wrote an introduction to the Book of Mark for a new publication of the Gospels and turned down MTV's Man of the Year. I respect and adore him. My wardrobe is primarily black and has been so for the past eighteen years. I am not 'goth'. I am pre-Manson. I am pre-white face paint. I am morbid, not attention starved. I love all forms of artistic expression. When I was a child I wanted to be published, I wrote book upon book of short stories and poetry. I wrote to express myself, I did not focus on structure, I did not concentrate. In high school I wanted to create charcoals and Edward Gory style illustrations, alas, not my forte..although I still try. In college I majored in photography; drawing influence from Joel Peter Witkin, Mary Ellen Mark and countless others who showed me the importance of capturing what lies at the core of a human. There is no appreciation for gritty, intricately staged photography in my small southern town, it became draining. Eventually, digital killed my passion, the dark room is my happy place and it was taken over by a computer. I am slowly opening up to the idea of working without film, I am not there yet. Through all of these stages I have continued to write. What I have failed to do is focus. That is what I hope to accomplish here. I have read some very promising writers as well as constructive criticism on this site. I think this is a good place to start.
